August is a month of return for business-class travel. It brings back two long-haul routes that were disrupted earlier this year, alongside a wave of new business-class cabins introduced to existing routes. Three carriers are moving ahead with upgraded cabins this month, and airport investment continues with a new lounge opening in the UK. A total solar eclipse on August 12 is also reshaping travel demand across parts of Western Europe this month.

For business-class travelers, this brings more choice and more comfort on routes that were either reduced or unavailable earlier in the year, alongside higher fares on itineraries that overlap with the eclipse.

Executive snapshot: what is shaping August 2026

  • Airlines introduce new business-class cabins: All Nippon Airways (ANA), Avianca, and United Airlines will offer more comfortable business-class cabins on certain routes, starting in August.
  • Two long-haul routes return to daily service: Qatar Airways resumes flights to Philadelphia, and Air India restores daily flights to Toronto, both starting on August 1.
  • A new lounge opens at Manchester Airport: Swissport International opens its third Aspire lounge at Manchester Airport (MAN) on August 18.
  • A total solar eclipse increases travel demand in Europe: Bookings along the eclipse path are up more than 50% year-over-year.

New business-class products enter service this month

Three major airlines are introducing upgraded business-class products in August.

  • All Nippon Airways (ANA) starts this month by launching its newest business-class suite, The Room FX, on its first Boeing 787-9 plane. Contrary to industry standards, this business-class cabin has pre-reclined seats, and travelers cannot adjust them. The leg rest flips up manually to form a 76.5-inch (194-cm) bed, a sofa-style design similar to Finnair’s AirLounge. Sliding privacy doors and 24-inch entertainment screens complete the suites.

Three aircraft will carry the new cabin by the end of 2026, flying from Tokyo Haneda (HND) to Houston (IAH), Los Angeles (LAX), Seattle (SEA), and Washington Dulles (IAD).
  • United Airlines expands the number of routes featuring its newest Polaris 2.0 cabin. Starting August 2, this cabin will be available on the airline’s 14 weekly flights between Singapore (SIN) and San Francisco (SFO).

The cabin features closing privacy doors, 4K entertainment screens, wireless charging, and free Starlink Wi-Fi. Travelers who book one of the eight Polaris Studio suites can also enjoy an exclusive caviar and champagne service.

Following this launch, United Airlines becomes the airline with the highest number of business-class seats on this route, with 1,792 weekly seats, 15% more than the number Singapore Airlines offers.
  • On August 4, Avianca launches its long-haul business-class cabin, Insignia, on flights from Bogotá (BOG) to New York (JFK). This cabin, found exclusively on Boeing 787 aircraft, includes flatbed seats, seatback screens for in-flight entertainment, and amenity kits featuring Loto del Sur products. Insignia will thus replace Avianca’s older business-class cabin on this route, which features reclining seats.

Two routes return to daily service in August

img 3 August 2026 US premium flight briefing

August brings daily service back to two long-haul routes that offered reduced capacity earlier this year.

  • From August 1, Qatar Airways will operate daily flights between Philadelphia (PHL) and Doha (DOH), using Airbus A350-900 aircraft equipped with the Qsuite business class and Starlink connectivity. Until early 2026, American Airlines operated flights on this route as part of an agreement with Qatar Airways, but it suspended them amid the Middle Eastern conflict.

By restoring direct service on this route, Qatar Airways expands its North American network to 14 destinations and connects Philadelphia to more than 160 destinations beyond Doha.
  • Starting on August 1, Air India will offer daily flights between Toronto (YYZ)  and Delhi (DEL). The airline reduced the number of flights on this route at the beginning of summer due to fuel prices. Now it not only restores them; the airline is also deploying a new Boeing 787-9 plane on this route, reducing the flight time from 20 hours to 17 hours by eliminating the usual fuel stop in Vienna. This change also marks the first time Air India’s newest three-class aircraft flies to Canada.

This way, travelers from the US and Canada can yet again reach Middle Eastern and Asian destinations more easily through Doha and Delhi.

A new lounge opens at Manchester Airport

Travelers departing from Manchester Airport (MAN) will have access to one more lounge starting on August 18. This is when Swissport International opens a new 300-seat Aspire lounge, its third lounge at this airport.

  • The new lounge is located in Terminal 2, near the D gates, away from the main departures area; it offers a self-service buffet, a dedicated work zone with two private work booths, and a seating area.
  • Since this is not an airline-operated lounge, travelers will have to pay an access fee of £46.99 ($63) for adults and £31.99 ($43) for children aged 2 to 11, with a maximum stay of three hours.

The Aspire lounge network has expanded to 106 locations worldwide in 2026, including Stockholm, Geneva, Calgary, and Vilnius.

A total solar eclipse draws travelers to Europe

img 5 August 2026 US premium flight briefing

On August 12, a total solar eclipse crosses Western Europe and will be most visible from the Spanish mainland. The eclipse is drawing astronomy enthusiasts from all over the world.

  • United Airlines’ bookings to cities along the eclipse path, including Bilbao, Palma de Mallorca, Santiago de Compostela, Madrid, Barcelona, and Reykjavík, have increased more than 50% year-over-year.
  • Airports along the path face travel demand 25% higher than last year between August 7 and 12. Bilbao’s flight demand alone is up 366% compared to last year, with Asturias up 292% and Valencia up 137%.

Because of this, travelers with itineraries to northern or eastern Spain this month will find higher fares and less available premium accommodation than in a typical August.

Navigating booking in August 2026

After several months defined by cuts and disruption, August is the first month where the direction reverses. Some routes that were reduced or suspended are coming back, and airlines are moving ahead with new business-class cabins.

If you are on the lookout for flights to the Gulf or to India, you will now have more options to choose from. And if a new cabin is part of what draws you to a route, August offers you the opportunity to discover new business-class cabins on routes to South American and Asian destinations.

At the same time, if your itinerary touches Spain near August 12, you can expect higher fares and scarce premium accommodation from eclipse-driven demand.
